Greetings and salutations, metalheads! Your Final Four starts right here, and edging its way in at #n4 is Live After Death, by the mighty Iron Maiden.
This hugely popular live album from 1985 stands out, right down to the brilliant cover artwork from Derek Riggs. The music endures, too, with a set-list that offered a good selection from Iron Maiden's first five studio records.
Live After Death was made up of two performances during Iron Maiden's World Slavery tour: one at the Long Beach Arena in Southern California, the other at London's Hammersmith Odeon. In assembly, the tracks were mixed to mimic the experience of a single Iron Maiden gig, giving the listener a true sense of what it's like to hear them in person.
Highlights included fan favourites like "The Number of the Beast," "Hallowed Be Thy Name," and a scorching version of "Aces High." Live After Death remains the best-selling live album of Iron Maiden's stellar career, and it is widely regarded as one of the greatest heavy metal live albums of all time.
That's it from me today - I'll be back tomorrow with our runner up. But before then, I shall leave you in the capable hands of Graeme Tony Samways, who will be unveiling our bronze medallist a little later. Any ideas what it could be?
Best Ever Albums score 77/100.
