And what a shagtastic album to start us off with! The Shawahank Redemption of albums!
First...the obligatory write up....
Blackbird is the second studio album by American rock band Alter Bridge, released on October 5, 2007. The first single, "Rise Today", was released on July 30, 2007. The album peaked at number 13 on the Billboard 200, selling 47,000 copies in its first week on the charts. As of December 2008, Blackbird has sold 227,000 copies. Despite receiving poor marketing and generally low mainstream success, initial critical reception towards the album was mostly positive, with music critics praising the songwriting and musicianship. The album was certified Silver by the British Phonographic Industry
So there we have it. I said 'The Shawshank Redemption' of albums. Now in no way did I mean that Alter Bridge have a love in with a guy called Red while being banged......... up after murdering his wife....But more so because of its poor marketing and kind of flopping in the sales department. (Shawshank was a cinematic flop that through time became a classic and constant top 10 best film of all time) This album has a similar take. Sales weren't fantastic in it's opening years but over time it has grown in stature and is hugely respected critically.
Myself, as some of you already know, got into this band just after joining this group. I had heard of them but I think I had read some bits about Miles Kennedy being a bit of a nob or something and ..wrongly....dismissed the band....
.....But after reading clippits in this group about them I thought I would delve in and get my toes wet. I asked on here which album people would recommend and Blackbird was it's biggest calling!.
Since then, Blackbird is a constant on the shuffle. On the school runs or trips to work, whenever a song off this...or One Day Remains...album comes on, the volume is whacked up!
I can't rave enough about it. This is defo a top 5 album for me, along with One Day Remains.
It's not Heavy Metal, and not yet a classic, but it's a great meat-and-bones balls out heavy rock album That deserves a good dusting of volume. Don't be shy, turn this dirty little tramp right up!
I may not be able to hear your comments over the volume but please don't let that stop you....
Oh...and whoops...Good Morning....
